The Program

Ludwig van Beethoven - Symphony No. 3, “Eroica”

Anna Clyne - DANCE

What Makes This Concert Interesting

  • Beethoven once planned to dedicate his Symphony No. 3 to Napoleon. After Napoleon declared himself Emperor, Beethoven scratched his name from the title page so fiercely that he reportedly left holes in the paper.

  • Anna Clyne’s DANCE is based on five lines from “Dance,” a poem by Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi. Each movement takes its title from one line of the poem.
