Mares 'n Music on June 13

The Walla Walla Symphony and local horse groups are pairing up for a unique afternoon of western riding and horsemanship with live symphonic music on Sunday, June 13 at the Walla Walla Fairgrounds Expo Arena at 3:00 pm. Dr. Edward Dixon conducts the Walla Walla Symphony with riders Ruben Villasenor, the Walla Walla Wagonettes, Crossfire, Daryl Hopson, Jennifer Gregory and Kristin Heilbrun, the Blue Mountain Riders, the Umapine Riders, Heidi Thomas and Sharee LaRue, Cynthia Hoffman, Edward Morris, Cathy Sauer, and vaulters from the Happy Horse Riding School. Mini horses will be greeting the audience as they arrive. Master of Ceremonies is Jimmye Turner, and Shane Laib is Event Coordinator. Tickets are general admission with adults $10, youth $5 (under 18) and a family ticket at $25 for two adults and two youth. Food and drinks will be available at Kari’s Concessions during the concert.

Music will include “Raider’s March” by John Williams, Bizet’s “Carmen Suite,” “Send In the Clowns,” Carousel Waltz,” “Hoedown” from “Rodeo,” “Theme from Star Trek,” “James Bond Medley” and more.
 

The Walla Walla Symphony, the oldest continuously operating symphony west of the Mississippi, has been under the artistic leadership of Music Director and Conductor Yaacov Bergman since 1987, and has performed in Cordiner Hall on the Whitman College campus since 1967.  The Symphony is recognized for its adventurous programming, school programs, and tradition of performing original compositions. From October through June, the Walla Walla Symphony plays or sponsors concerts in a schedule that includes a mix of symphony concerts, special concerts and a Discovery series exploring music traditions from around the world.
