Formed in the fall of 2008 with the help of a generous grant from the Sherwood Foundation, the Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra provides young musicians in grades 8 - 12 with a unique opportunity to rehearse and perform in a large ensemble alongside other musicians from across eastern Washington and northern Oregon.
This season, the Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra will be under the music direction of Dr. Jeremy Mims, an accomplished pianist, conductor and music educator.
Auditions for the 2012-2013 Youth Orchestra season will be held on Sunday, September 16 from 3-6 p.m. and Monday, September 17, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Whitman College Music Building. Auditions are open to students currently in grades 8 - 12, and all students must audition regardless of past participation in the WWSYO. All instruments are invited to audition. Audition requirements include: a prepared one-minute solo piece of your choice and a short session of sight reading. Rehearsals will be held on Monday evenings and all Youth Orchestra musicians are required to participate in their school music program, if one is available.
For more information, or to schedule an audition, please call the Symphony office at 509-529-8020 or e-mail Elizabeth Fleming at elizabeth@wwsymphony.org.
The WWSYO is supported by the Walla Walla Symphony, the Sherwood Trust, and the Charlotte Martin Foundation.
